01/28/2007 - Stillwater, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Terrel Harris scored 21 points to lead 13th- ranked Oklahoma State over Iowa State, 62-50, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Mario Boggan added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Cowboys (18-3, 4-2 Big 12), who have won two straight and three of four. JamesOn Curry tallied 14 points for Oklahoma State, which used a 12-0 run to start the second half to take the lead for good.
Mike Taylor scored 13 points to lead the Cyclones (11-9, 2-4), who have lost four in a row. Dodie Dunson added 11 points for Iowa State.
Down 23-17 at halftime, the Cowboys opened the second half with a 12-0 run to take the lead for good. Boggan had six points during the surge, which was capped by a Curry layup with 4 1/2 minutes elapsed in the stanza for a 29-23 lead.
After the Cyclones closed within 40-36 following a pair of Taylor three- pointers, an 8-0 run put Oklahoma State ahead by double digits for the first time. A Kenny Cooper free throw ended the burst with just under five minutes left for a 48-36 advantage.
Iowa State never again threatened Oklahoma State, which was quietly doing something it hasn't in six years.
This is the first time that Oklahoma State has played on January 27 since 2001, when after a game at Colorado one of the team's planes crashed outside Denver killing all 10 people aboard. The program intentionally avoided playing on January 27 for the last five years and only did so this year, partly because it was a Saturday and because the game was at home and did not require any travel.
It has been school policy to not bring attention to the tragic event with annual memorials or other services, choosing to take a low-key approach. Other than a moment of silence on Saturday before the game, there was no other observation of the tragic day. There is memorial to those who died inside Gallagher-Iba Arena and a banner hanging with their names. The library bell also tolled 10 times at 6:37 local time in remembrance of the time the plane crash.
The Cyclones never trailed in the first half, leading by as many as nine points, 13-4, before having the advantage trimmed to one, 18-17.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
