Hull headed down after draw with Wigan

Hull entered the day all but mathematically assured of relegation, and they went behind in the 30th minute when Wigan's Victor Moses found the back of the net.

Moses put the hosts ahead on the half-hour mark when he collected a through- ball from Mohamed Diame and cut back past two defenders before firing a shot off the post and into the net.

The Tigers responded when Atkinson headed home a Kevin Kilbane cross, and they took the lead in the 64th minute through Cullen, who nodded a George Boateng cross past goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic.

But the end came in the final minutes of stoppage time as substitute Paul Scharner set up an overhead kick for Gohouri which sailed past goalkeeper Matt Duke, sealing Hull's fate.

Arsenal has yet to secure third place as they fell 2-1 to Blackburn at Ewood Park on Monday.

Robin van Persie had the Gunners ahead in the 13th minute, but David Dunn scored right before halftime to level the match and Christopher Samba tallied the winner 22 minutes from time.

Blackburn moves into the top half with the win, while Arsenal is five points clear of Tottenham but can still be caught by their north London rivals.
