02/09/2009 - Dallas, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Sean Avery cleared waivers Monday. All that's left now is finding a team to take the outspoken forward, who is still technically a member of the Dallas Stars.

The Stars are trying to bring closure to a two-plus month saga that started with Avery's suspension for making crude comments to the media in early December.

The team has already made it clear that Avery will not play for the Stars, but now the solution is attempting to find an American Hockey League club willing to take him. Dallas doesn't have an AHL affiliate this season.

According to several sources the Rangers have interest in bringing Avery back to New York. Avery is in the first year of a four-year, $15.5 million deal signed with Dallas in the offseason.

Avery was suspended by the NHL for six games, without pay, following comments prior to a contest in Calgary regarding his ex-girlfriends dating other hockey players. He subsequently agreed to undergo anger management treatment and the Stars essentially washed their hands of him, speaking out publicly against the incident and Avery himself.

The 28-year-old antagonist tallied three goals and seven assists, along with 77 penalty minutes in 23 games for the Stars prior to the incident.
